Patrick S. Henney

December 18, 1960 — July 26, 2025

Patrick S. Henney, a man of unwavering kindness and dedication to his community, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, at the age of 64. Born to G. James and Yvonne M. Henney (nee Furjanic) on December 18, 1960, in Chicago, IL, Patrick's early years on the East Side were filled with the joys of childhood and the love of a close-knit family. His life was a testament to the values of friendship, thoughtfulness, and selflessness, which he embodied in every aspect of his being.

Patrick's journey through life was shared with his beloved spouse, Mary Ann Henney (nee Cummings), with whom he built a legacy of love and warmth. His pride and joy were his children, Katie Henney and Kyle Henney, who, along with his daughter-in-law Claudia, continued to spread the light that Patrick had kindled in their hearts. The birth of his grandson, Lucian Henney, added a new dimension of joy to his life, and he cherished every moment spent with the young boy. Patrick also leaves behind his caring sister, Mary Zenner; his brother, Tim Henney and spouse Mike; and his sister, Cathy Holtzlander, who together mourn his loss while celebrating the life he led. Along with his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Also left to honor Patrick’s memory are his brother-in-law, James Cummings III and his wife Ineke, and the many friends and colleagues who were fortunate enough to know him. While his mother-in-law, Ann Cummings, father-in-law, James Cummings Jr. and sister-in-law, Carol Bradich, preceded him in death, the bond they shared remains a comforting reminder of the family’s enduring connections.

A retired Union Carpenter, Patrick's skilled hands and sharp mind contributed to the building and shaping of his community. His love for the game of baseball, which began in his youth, blossomed into a lifelong passion for coaching. Patrick's dedication to sports extended far beyond the field; he served as a coach and Vice President of Babe Ruth baseball, as well as a coach for Mann Park basketball and Grissom "Jets" basketball. His influence as a coach for the Hegewisch Girls Softball team was profound, as he not only taught the game but also instilled values of teamwork, respect, and perseverance in his players.

Those who knew Patrick will remember him as the epitome of a good neighbor and friend. His friendly demeanor welcomed many into his life, and his thoughtful nature ensured that no one felt forgotten. Patrick's selfless acts, often done without fanfare, touched the lives of countless individuals. He was a pillar of his community, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a word of encouragement.

As we bid farewell to Patrick S. Henney, we reflect on a life well-lived, a life that was a gift to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he has departed from this earthly realm, his spirit lives on in the memories we cherish, the community he helped build, and the love he shared with his family and friends. Patrick's legacy is one of compassion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place, one act of kindness at a time. He will be deeply missed, but his light will continue to shine in the hearts of those he touched.
