Age 74, late of Hegewisch, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2022. Beloved husband of Peggy Karas (nee Pancer). Loving father of Jessica (Bryan) Crooks, Russell (Belinda) Karas and the late Neil J. Karas. Proud grandfather of Nolan Crooks, Collin Crooks, Reece Crooks, Madelyn Karas and Morgan Karas. Kind brother of James (Mary) Karas, Susan (Steve) Malone, Janice (Thomas) Hoffman and the late Donald J. (Elizabeth) Karas. Dear uncle of many nieces and nephews. Cherished friend of many and will be dearly missed. Preceded in death by parents: John and Phyllis (nee Hogan) Karas.
John proudly and honorably served his country is the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 272 and was involved with the VA. John was a dedicated stationary engineer at the Chicago Skyway. He loved his family and was a very proud grandpa. John enjoyed fishing and golfing and was an avid Blackhawks, White Sox and Bears fan. He loved spending time at Kelsey Lake, MI with friends and family.
