John Albert Bonczek, age 86, late of Hegewisch passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Adrienne Bonczek (nee Pugh), with whom he shared a lifetime of cherished memories. He was a loving father to John Bonczek, Jr., Kelly (Jeannie) Bonczek, and Robin (Paul) Steller, all of whom carry forward his legacy of kindness and strength. He was a caring grandfather to Gage, John Peter (Lexi), John Michael, Amber, Kelly Andrew, and Ayden, who brought immense joy to his later years.
He is also survived by his kind siblings, Charlotte Drozdowski and Robert Bonczek, who remember him fondly. John was a dear uncle to a nephew and many nieces, and a cousin to many, all of whom valued his warmth and generosity.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John Peter and Stella Bonczek, whose memory he honored throughout his life.
John proudly and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army, a testament to his unwavering dedication and love for his nation. Throughout his life, he demonstrated a profound respect for service and commitment, values he instilled deeply within his family and community.
John was an avid lover of the outdoors and found joy in wood carving, a craft that allowed him to express his creativity and patience. His enthusiasm extended to hunting and fishing, pursuits that connected him to nature and kindled his adventurous spirit. John also enjoyed drawing and painting, activities through which he nurtured his artistic side. A passionate gardener, he took particular delight in tending to flowers, filling his garden with vibrant life and color. His love for animals, especially his dogs, was well known and reflected his gentle and caring nature.
John Albert Bonczek’s life was marked by devotion - to his country, his family, and his passions. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit endures in the hearts of those he loved and inspired.
