Richard J. Koza, a beloved member of our community, was born on October 10, 1951, and passed away peacefully at home in Hegewisch on December 27, 2025. He leaves behind a legacy of fond memories and cherished moments that will forever be held close to the hearts of his family and friends.
Moose was a caring brother to Robert Koza, the late Michael (Priscilla) Koza, James (Patti) Koza, and John Koza. He was a proud uncle and great uncle to many, each one remembering him for his steady presence and sense of humor. His warm smile and infectious laughter brought joy to those around him, making him a dear friend to many who were lucky enough to know him.
In life, Moose was passionate about nature and the outdoors. He was a dedicated member of Ducks Unlimited, where he shared his love for conservation and wildlife. As a co-owner of Marshland Management, he dedicated his time to preserving the beauty of the land he cherished. An avid duck hunter and fisherman, Moose spent countless hours in the great outdoors, relishing the thrill of the hunt and the tranquility of the water. He also enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams, Chicago Cubs, Bears and the Blackhawks.
Moose’s departure has left a profound void in the lives of those who knew him. He valued family, tradition, and time spent outdoors, and he filled his life with humility and quiet strength. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter F. and Irene S. Koza, who surely welcomed him with open arms.
Moose will be dearly missed but will live on in our memories, forever cherished in our hearts.
